重陽節
Chóng Yáng Jié
Chong Yang Festival
is the Ninth Day of September on the Lunar Calendar.
It is celebrated across Asia by Chinese, Japanese, Koreans and Vietnamese.
Below is one of the Chinese poems for this day:
Missing My Brothers in Shandong on the Double Ninth
(九月九日憶山東兄弟), by the Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei:
獨在異鄉為異客,
dú zài yì xiāng wéi yì kè
每逢佳節倍思親。
měi féng jiā jié bèi sī qīn
遙知兄弟登高處,
yáo zhī xiōng dì dēng gāo chù
遍插茱萸少一人。
biàn chā zhū yú shǎo yì rén
English Translation by Betty Tseng:
I am an outsider at a foreign place alone,
Every occasion of festivity finds me missing my family manifold.
In the distance my brothers must be making a climb into the highlands,
They would have evodia attached to their sleeves and my absence noted.
