Thai Cooking Experience with Corpus Amy – and learn some Southern Min Dialect
What first comes to your mind when you think of Thailand ?
I had the incredible opportunity to join a fascinating Thai cooking class in Bangkok this summer and it was truly worth every moment!
During the class, we had the chance to explore the vibrant local market, immersing ourselves in the aromas and flavours of Thai cuisine. We also learnt about the essential ingredients that make the Thai dishes lip-smacking.
Without a doubt, we left the class with satisfied smiles and a belly full of amazing food!
Three words in Thai (we noticed in class) that sound like Chinese or more specifically, the Southern Min dialect:
菜脯 Cài pú preserved vegetables (tshài-póo in the dialect sounds very similar to the same thing in Thai).
菜头 Cài tóu radish (tshài-thâu in Southern Min sounds very much like Thai).
鸡 Jī chicken (ke or kue in the dialect again sounds like chicken in Thai)!

在課堂上，我們有機會探索充滿活力的當地市場，沉浸在泰國美食的香氣和風味中。我們還了解了使泰國菜令人垂涎欲滴的基本成分。
Zài kètáng shàng, wǒmen yǒu jīhuì tànsuǒ chōngmǎn huólì dí dàng dì shìchǎng, chénjìn zài tàiguó měishí de xiāngqì hé fēngwèi zhōng. Wǒmen hái liǎojiěle shǐ tàiguó cài lìng rén chuíxiányùdī de jīběn chéngfèn.
毫無疑問，我們帶著滿意的微笑和滿腹美味的食物離開了教室！
Háo wú yíwèn, wǒmen dàizhe mǎnyì de wéixiào hé mǎnfù měiwèi de shíwù líkāile jiàoshì!
泰語中的三個單字（我們在課堂上注意到）聽起來像中文，或者更具體地說，聽起來像閩南話：
Tàiyǔ zhòng de sān gè dānzì (wǒmen zài kètáng shàng zhùyì dào) tīng qǐlái xiàng zhōngwén, huòzhě gèng jùtǐ dì shuō, tīng qǐlái xiàng mǐnnán huà:
菜脯 Cài pú 醃製蔬菜（方言中的 tshài-póo 聽起來與泰語中的相同的東西非常相似）。
Cài pú yān zhì shūcài (fāngyán zhōng de tshài-póo tīng qǐlái yǔ tàiyǔ zhōng de xiāngtóng de dōngxī fēicháng xiāngsì).
