    🎯 Rediscovering My Purpose as an Educator: Amy’s Journey in Bilingual Teaching

    Looking back at the version of myself 14 years ago, I’m deeply grateful. This journey in education has not only reshaped how I understand language and learning—it has helped me discover who I am.

    I pursued linguistics at University College London (UCL) and the University of Cambridge, where I was fascinated by the structure and theory behind language. But it wasn’t inside lecture halls that I found my passion—it was in the classroom, lesson after lesson, working closely with learners from all walks of life.

    I’ve come to believe that real language learning doesn’t come from memorising rules or completing worksheets. It comes from discovering your own rhythm and way of learning.
    That’s my purpose: to combine academic training and 14 years of classroom experience to design bilingual learning journeys tailored to each student’s needs.

    💡 Why learn with Ms Amy?

    From preschoolers at American-curriculum schools to corporate executives in Singapore, flexibility has always been at the core of my teaching. But flexibility isn’t just about methods—it’s about truly seeing every learner and honouring their differences.

    🔹 For high-level TOEIC students
    One student had already scored over 900 in TOEIC. He knew all the vocabulary, but struggled to summarise key ideas when speaking. I ditched the vocabulary drills and went straight into content-based discussions. I guided him through expressing ideas logically and persuasively—not by memorising answers, but by building thought structure.

    🔹 For a bright preschooler
    She could spell and read fluently, but had trouble recognising rhyming words. I tweaked the game: “You can’t win unless you find a rhyming word beyond what’s on the card.” Watching her go from confused to confident—and seeing the sparkle in her eyes when she finally nailed it—is something I’ll never forget.

    🔹 For a strong writer in an international school
    She was already writing well, so I shifted the focus to vocabulary refinement. I’d ask her, “Can we swap that word for something more vivid or precise?” After a few rounds, she began doing it herself, pushing every sentence to be more powerful. That instinct for language? It was always there. I just helped unlock it.

    🔹 For a diverse-level corporate class
    The class had mixed proficiency. I designed speaking rounds where slower learners could rehearse key phrases. During summary discussions, I would call on them so they’d experience, in front of their peers, that “I can do it” moment. These little wins? They build big confidence.

    🌱 Why I insist on being flexible

    Because I believe every learner has something worth celebrating.
    My role isn’t just to teach English; it’s to walk alongside each student, highlight their strengths, support their struggles, and help them find joy and motivation in progress.

    This is the first core value behind my teaching.

    感謝14 年前的自己,這條教學的路讓我不斷地重新認識語言、認識學習者,更認識自己。
    Gǎnxiè 14 nián qián de zìjǐ, zhè tiáo jiàoxué de lù ràng wǒ bùduàn dì chóngxīn rènshí yǔyán, rènshí xuéxí zhě, gèng rènshí zìjǐ.

    我曾在英國倫敦大學學院(UCL)與劍橋大學鑽研語言學,當時的我熱愛理論與結構,對語言的奧秘充滿敬畏。但真正點燃我教學熱情的,不是在學術殿堂,而是在一堂又一堂與學員共處的課程裡。
    Wǒ céng zài yīngguó lúndūn dàxué xuéyuàn (UCL) yǔ jiànqiáo dàxué zuānyán yǔyán xué, dāngshí de wǒ rè’ài lǐlùn yǔ jiégòu, duì yǔyán de àomì chōngmǎn jìngwèi. Dàn zhēnzhèng diǎnrán wǒ jiàoxué rèqíng de, bùshì zài xuéshù diàntáng, ér shì zài yītáng yòu yītáng yǔ xuéyuán gòngchǔ de kèchéng lǐ.

    我深信,真正的語言學習不是背誦規則、完成練習題,而是找到屬於自己的節奏和方法。這就是我教學的初衷:運用專業所學與實戰經驗,為每一位學員打造適合他們的雙語學習路徑。
    Wǒ shēnxìn, zhēnzhèng de yǔyán xuéxí bùshì bèisòng guīzé, wánchéng liànxí tí, ér shì zhǎodào shǔyú zìjǐ de jiézòu hé fāngfǎ. Zhè jiùshì wǒ jiàoxué de chūzhōng: Yùnyòng zhuānyè suǒ xué yǔ shízhàn jīngyàn, wèi měi yī wèi xuéyuán dǎzào shìhé tāmen de shuāngyǔ xuéxí lùjìng.

    不論是企業高階主管,還是美國學校幼兒園的小朋友,我都堅持「靈活」是最重要的教學原則之一。這不只是方法上的彈性,更是對每位學員差異的尊重與理解。
    Bùlùn shì qǐyè gāojiē zhǔguǎn, háishì měiguó xuéxiào yòu’éryuán de xiǎopéngyǒu, wǒ dū jiānchí `línghuó’shì zuì zhòngyào de jiàoxuéyuánzé zhī yī. Zhè bù zhǐshì fāngfǎ shàng de tánxìng, gèng shì duì měi wèi xuéyuán chāyì de zūnzhòng yǔ lǐjiě.

    🔹 高階多益學員:他已經考過 900 分,單字都懂,但要他口說總結卻容易卡卡。我當下決定放掉預備的單字練習,改用內容理解提問,帶他一步步講出邏輯清楚的組織語句。我不是要他背答案,而是訓練他的思考脈絡與說服力。
    🔹 Gāojiē duō yì xuéyuán: Tā yǐjīng kǎoguò 900 fēn, dānzì dōu dǒng, dàn yào tā kǒu shuō zǒngjié què róngyì kǎ kǎ. Wǒ dāngxià juédìng fàng diào yùbèi de dānzì liànxí, gǎi yòng nèiróng lǐjiě tíwèn, dài tā yībù bù jiǎng chū luójí qīngchǔ de zǔzhī yǔjù. Wǒ bùshì yào tā bèi dá’àn, ér shì xùnliàn tā de sīkǎo màiluò yǔ shuōfú lì.

    🔹 一位美國學校幼兒園的小女生,拼字讀字超強,但 rhyming 聽力弱。我換成押韻遊戲規則:「字卡以外也要找到押韻的字才算贏」,她一邊玩、一邊思考,從原本一臉困惑,到後來得意洋洋說出 rhyming word,被我驚訝稱讚時的眼神,我永遠記得。
    🔹 Yī wèi měiguó xuéxiào yòu’éryuán de xiǎo nǚshēng, pīn zì dú zì chāo qiáng, dàn rhyming tīnglì ruò. Wǒ huàn chéng yāyùn yóuxì guīzé:`Zì kǎ yǐwài yě yào zhǎodào yāyùn de zì cái suàn yíng’, tā yībiān wán, yībiān sīkǎo, cóng yuánběn yī liǎn kùnhuò, dào hòulái déyì yángyáng shuō chū rhyming word, bèi wǒ jīngyà chēngzàn shí de yǎnshén, wǒ yǒngyuǎn jìdé.

    🔹 康橋國際部學生:她作文能力已經很好,我把課堂改成挑字練習:寫一個句子,問她「有沒有更有趣、精準的詞可以替換?」幾輪下來,她不只是寫得更好,還開始主動挑戰自己如何讓每句話都更厲害,這種語感是被激發出來的。
    🔹 Kāngqiáo guójì bù xuéshēng: Tā zuòwén nénglì yǐjīng hěn hǎo, wǒ bǎ kètáng gǎi chéng tiāo zì liànxí: Xiě yīgè jùzǐ, wèn tā `yǒu méiyǒu gèng yǒuqù, jīngzhǔn dì cí kěyǐ tìhuàn?’Jǐ lún xiàlái, tā bù zhǐshì xiě dé gèng hǎo, hái kāishǐ zhǔdòng tiǎozhàn zìjǐ rúhé ràng měi jù huà dōu gèng lìhài, zhè zhǒng yǔgǎn shì bèi jīfā chūlái de.

    🔹 企業團班:這組學生英文程度落差大。我設計讓進度慢的學員有完整輸出句子的練習機會,到了總結時,我刻意點名讓他們回答,讓他們在全班面前體會「原來我也可以說得出來」,這樣的設計,是對學習信心的溫柔推進。
    🔹 Qǐyè tuán bān: Zhè zǔ xuéshēng yīngwén chéngdù luòchā dà. Wǒ shèjì ràng jìndù màn de xuéyuán yǒu wánzhěng shūchū jùzǐ de liànxí jīhuì, dàole zǒngjié shí, wǒ kèyì diǎnmíng ràng tāmen huídá, ràng tāmen zài quán bān miànqián tǐhuì `yuánlái wǒ yě kěyǐ shuō dé chūlái’, zhèyàng de shèjì, shì duì xuéxí xìnxīn de wēnróu tuījìn.

    🌱 為什麼我堅持靈活?
    🌱 Wèishéme wǒ jiānchí línghuó?

    因為我相信:每個人都有值得發光的地方。我的角色不只是語言顧問,更是陪伴者。我會找出學員的強項、支持他們面對挑戰、從中建立成就感,再將這份動力延伸到未來的學習旅程中。
    Yīnwèi wǒ xiāngxìn: Měi gèrén dōu yǒu zhídé fāguāng dì dìfāng. Wǒ de juésè bù zhǐshì yǔyán gùwèn, gèng shì péibàn zhě. Wǒ huì zhǎo chū xué yuán de qiángxiàng, zhīchí tāmen miàn duì tiǎozhàn, cóngzhōng jiànlì chéngjiù gǎn, zài jiāng zhè fèn dònglì yánshēn dào wèilái de xuéxí lǚchéng zhōng.

    🔹 针对高阶多益学员
    有位学生多益成绩已超过 900 分,单词和文法都很扎实,但在口语总结时常常卡壳。我立刻调整,放弃原定的单词练习,改为引导他理解内容、练习有逻辑地表达想法。
    我不是让他背标准答案,而是训练他的思考脉络与表达说服力。

    🔹 Zhēnduì gāo jiē duō yì xuéyuán
    Yǒu wèi xuéshēng duō yì chéngjì yǐ chāoguò 900 fēn, dāncí hé wénfǎ dōu hěn zhāshi, dàn zài kǒuyǔ zǒngjié shí chángcháng qiǎké. Wǒ lìkè tiáozhěng, fàngqì yuán dìng de dāncí liànxí, gǎi wèi yǐndǎo tā lǐjiě nèiróng, liànxí yǒu luójí dì biǎodá xiǎngfǎ.
    Wǒ bùshì ràng tā bèi biāozhǔn dá’àn, ér shì xùnliàn tā de sīkǎo màiluò yǔ biǎodá shuōfú lì.

    🔹 针对一位聪明的幼儿园学生
    她拼字、阅读都非常流利,但在听辨押韵方面较弱。我调整了课堂游戏规则:「除了字卡上的内容,还要自己找到押韵的词才算获胜。」
    看着她从一开始的迷茫,到后来自信地说出押韵词,并在我惊喜称赞时闪耀的眼神,我至今记忆犹新。

    🔹 Zhēnduì yī wèi cōngmíng de yòu’éryuán xuéshēng
    Tā pīn zì, yuèdú dōu fēicháng liúlì, dàn zài tīng biàn yāyùn fāngmiàn jiào ruò. Wǒ tiáozhěngle kètáng yóuxì guīzé:`Chúle zì kǎ shàng de nèiróng, hái yào zìjǐ zhǎodào yāyùn de cí cái suàn huòshèng.’
    Kànzhe tā cóng yī kāishǐ de mímáng, dào hòulái zìxìn de shuō chū yāyùn cí, bìng zài wǒ jīngxǐ chēngzàn shí shǎnyào de yǎnshén, wǒ zhìjīn jì yì yóu xīn.

    🔹 针对国际学校的优秀写作学生
    她本来就能顺利完成作文,我于是转变教学目标,让她练习挑选更生动、精准的用词。我引导她一句一句问自己:“有没有更好的表达?”
    经过多次练习,她不仅写得更有力量,更开始主动挑战自己,让每句话都变得更有层次感。这种语言敏感度,其实早已在她心里,只是需要被唤醒。

    🔹 Zhēnduì guójì xuéxiào de yōuxiù xiězuò xuéshēng
    Tā běnlái jiù néng shùnlì wánchéng zuòwén, wǒ yúshì zhuǎnbiàn jiàoxué mùbiāo, ràng tā liànxí tiāoxuǎn gēng shēngdòng, jīngzhǔn dì yòng cí. Wǒ yǐndǎo tā yījù yījù wèn zìjǐ:“Yǒu méiyǒu gèng hǎo de biǎodá?”
    Jīngguò duō cì liànxí, tā bùjǐn xiě dé gèng yǒu lìliàng, gèng kāishǐ zhǔdòng tiǎozhàn zìjǐ, ràng měi jù huà dōu biàn dé gèng yǒu céngcì gǎn. Zhè zhǒng yǔyán mǐngǎn dù, qíshí zǎoyǐ zài tā xīnlǐ, zhǐshì xūyào bèi huànxǐng.

    🔹 针对企业团体课程
    班上学生的英文水平参差不齐。我特别设计了分层练习,让基础稍弱的学生也能有机会在讨论环节完整地输出几句内容。
    在最后总结时,我刻意点名他们发言,让他们在全班面前感受到:“原来我也可以讲出来!”
    这样的设计,温柔而坚定地在帮他们建立语言自信。

    🔹 Zhēnduì qǐyè tuántǐ kèchéng
    Bān shàng xuéshēng de yīngwén shuǐpíng cēncī bù qí. Wǒ tèbié shèjìle fēn céng liànxí, ràng jīchǔ shāo ruò de xuéshēng yě néng yǒu jīhuì zài tǎolùn huánjié wánzhěng dì shūchū jǐ jù nèiróng.
    Zài zuìhòu zǒngjié shí, wǒ kèyì diǎnmíng tāmen fāyán, ràng tāmen zài quán bān miànqián gǎnshòu dào:“Yuánlái wǒ yě kěyǐ jiǎng chūlái!”
    Zhèyàng de shèjì, wēnróu ér jiāndìng dì zài bāng tāmen jiànlì yǔyán zìxìn.

    🌱 为什么我坚持灵活教学?
    🌱 Wèishéme wǒ jiānchí línghuó jiàoxué?
