On Focus and Solitude…
In this era of rampant multi-tasking, we are accustomed to eating with our eyes glued to a screen. But in an Italian restaurant in Germany, Consultant Amy witnessed an interesting scene…
At several nearby tables sat German diners, each sitting alone. Coincidentally, they had all ordered a pizza or pasta. They sat there quietly, eating their food with focus and relish.
No scrolling through phones. No headphones. No books.
Only after finishing did they reveal satisfied smiles. Some picked up their phones only then; others returned their trays. They went home wearing those smiles the whole time.
To me, it looked like they had reached a state of ‘Flow’ just by eating!
In Corpus Learning Facilitation, we constantly emphasise the importance of #Environment…creating ‘white space’ in both our physical surroundings and our minds.
Practising #Mindfulness is about carving out your own time and space for calm.
When the brain becomes habituated to constant digital interference, we lose the ability to savor the moment. Practising a complete ‘disconnect’ while eating is the perfect training for entering a state of Deep Work in our professional lives.
