Wèi shé me yīng guó rén bù shì yìng tái běi?
Tái běi shì xǔ duō wài guó rén cháng zhù zài tái wān de shǒu xuǎn dì fāng, ruò shì gāng cóng yīng guó bān lái tái běi, biàn huì fā xiàn zài `zhù’ zhè fāng miàn hé yīng guó de chā jù mǎn dà de.

Why Can’t the British Adapt to Life in Taipei?
Foreigners who are going to stay in Taiwan for a long time would usually prefer to live in Taipei. If you’ve just moved to Taipei from the UK, you will realise that there is a huge gap between the two places in terms of ‘living.’
The geographical area of the UK is seven times the size of Taiwan. Many British families have their own gardens at home, where they can plant flowers and children can play outdoors. Also, London is a big city in which large green areas and parks are often seen, where citizens living nearby can enjoy leisure activities during their free time. However, Taiwan is a small island, and Taipei is a busy and densely populated city full of high-rise buildings, so there is no extra space to build large parks.
I have not seen any cockroaches for the past few years in the UK, which is a shock to someone who grew up in Taiwan. However, this is actually related to one of my previous articles about the climate differences between Taiwan and the UK. There are many flowers and plants in the UK in summertime, which naturally leads to an increase in bees and mosquitoes. On the other hand, the weather in Taiwan is sultry. If you do not keep your house clean, you’ll have to share it with cockroaches and mosquitoes.
Due to the two main reasons mentioned above, my friends and I have a hard time getting used to life in Taipei when we go back every summer, so I presume that the British who have just arrived in Taiwan might feel the same way.
